In the Red Hat Network Satellite Model, the entire Red Hat Network (RHN) functionality is stored locally on your network. The Satellite Server connects with RHN over the Internet only to download updates. This model allows you to take your RHN solution off the public Internet if required. It features a simple Web User Interface that simplifies management, an API Access Layer that enables easy integration of RHN using command line scripts from other applications into your existing infrastructure, customizable channels, and content caching locally on your network. With the Local Database Repository, its easy to store information about your systems, policies, and profiles locally. The Satellite also lets you create, clone or customize your own channels with the Channel Management tools, and manage all your outbound and inbound connections between RHN and your systems through a single system port.
